With great sadness, we announce that Marc Rehmsmeier passed away on April 29, 2022, after being diagnosed with cancer in July 2020. Marc was the life partner of Leonie Ringrose.

Marc, among many great actions, played a central role in co-founding the Predictive Epigenetics (PEP-NET) training network, with the aim of bringing together theoretical and experimental young scientists to join forces and investigate epigenetic processes. Marc was a mentor to several students in the network, and provided training for students in several of our workshops. The PEP-NET students and our whole community will always remember Marc for his brilliant mind and charming personality, as well as for the creative spirit he infused into our community, which we hope will continue to inspire our research and everyday life.

Marc spent his last two and a half weeks at the ”Palliativstation 55” of the Charité hospital in Berlin. The staff and doctors there were outstanding on all levels, and took great care of patients and their families as human beings.
